Camp Mystic's executive director began evacuating campers approximately 45 minutes after the National Weather Service issued a "life-threatening flash flooding" alert.
"2025 has been the year of the flood," said WPLG-TV meteorologist Michael Lowry in a July 15 email to USA TODAY. "The tragic July 4th flooding in central Texas – the deadliest flash flood in at least 50 years in the U.S. – punctuated what’s been an especially bad year for flooding across the country."
A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. The storm could produce rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour. A flash flood warning is in effect for northwest D.C. and parts of Montgomery, Arlington and Fairfax counties until 8:45 p.m.
Major I-95 cities -- Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Virginia -- could be impacted as heavy downpours could bring 2-3 inches of rainfall per hour over already saturated soils, which could easily cause flash flooding.
