A summer camp in central Texas designed for children with disabilities that had severe damage following the deadly flooding that hit the region was unexpectedly able to open on time this summer, thanks, in part, to the help from two men and hundreds of volunteers.

The National Weather Service urged people to avoid travel if a flash flood warning was in place for their area.

The forecast comes on the heels of heavy rain in Louisiana and Mississippi on Thursday, major and disruptive flooding that forced a state of emergency in New Jersey, and deadly flash floods in Texas that took the lives of at least 135 people, including children at a Christian girls’ camp.

Before light broke on July 4, dozens of families in Texas Hill Country had their lives changed forever. A downpour caused waterways to rise to near-unprecedented levels, creating floods that devastated a children's summer camp and swept away homes and cars.

Eight-year-old girls at sleep-away camp, families crammed into recreational vehicles, local residents traveling to or from work. These are some of the victims.
