Smoke from the Thursday fire, burning off Highway 371 between Burnt Valley Road and Highway 74, was seen for miles around.
The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. near Sharp Road and Valley Drive, just south of Highway 371, fire officials said.
An evacuation order and warnings remain in place after a brush fire erupted near Murrieta.
The fire, which crews dubbed the Volcano Fire, was reported at around 2:50 p.m. near Via Volcano and Tenaja Road in the La Cresta area, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
