Night 1 of SummerSlam is already in the books, and the show ended on a shocking note. After CM Punk defeated Gunther to win the world heavyweight championship, Seth Rollins made a shocking return to attack Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase, cash in his contract and win the title.

Night 1 of WWE SummerSlam 2025 had its fair share of highlights and culminated in unforgettable fashion, but similar to WrestleMania 41 earlier this year, the potential is there for it to be topped by a stacked second night of the event.

The go-home "WWE SmackDown" before SummerSlam 2025 warmed up Newark with quite a surprise. Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena opened the night to set the table for his big rematch against Cody Rhodes, but instead of the Cena we've seen for most of 2025, he reverted to his iconic "Super Cena" ways.
