IMPD veteran Tanya Terry is Indianapolis' first female police chief

Tanya Terry, a 27-year law enforcement veteran, was appointed to the position by Mayor Joe Hogsett, the city announced Wednesday. The previous head of IMPD, Chris Bailey, took the role of chief deputy mayor in early January. Terry will be the first woman to permanently hold the position in the city’s history.
