Republican Michael Holmstrom Jr. is the projected winner of Minnesota Senate District 29's special election, keeping the seat in the GOP's hands in the closely divided chamber.

On paper, the two-term incumbent Jacob Frey should be cruising to victory.

According to the Board of Elections, 732,866 people voted early across the five boroughs — the highest total in a non-presidential election year since early voting began in 2019.
