The deadline for Texas families to apply​ for Texas Education Freedom Accounts is on March 17.

Of the more than 160,000 families who have already applied for Texas's new school voucher program, data shows that 76% said they were not already in the public school system.

Many students have applied for the new Texas school voucher program, but some question whether the program will benefit low-income families after seeing early application statistics.

Houston ISD had far more voucher applicants than any other Texas district, according to the data. Fort Bend ISD also saw a large number of resident families apply for state-funded accounts.

New numbers are in for the Texas school voucher program, known as Texas Education Freedom Accounts. More than 160,000 students have already applied.

Students have applied from across the state, but most are clustered in urban areas, including Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
