I reading One Piece for the first time, here are my thoughts on Skypiea (pt 1). P.s. Nola is the goat and I love her. I’ll always ride for the One Piece animals, even if @Jay D. 🎵 makes fun of me for it. #onepiece #onepieceedit #luffy #sanji #nami

Which medium did I use for this piece? In all honesty, I actually can’t remember. I did this painting years ago… I think I At least started it with acrylic and then finished it with oils?? 🤷♀️🤷♀️ seems like something I’d do. This is a wedge tail eagle, I worked on the portrait quickly so that I’d focus on capturing the emotion in the pose rather than strictly copy the detail. I used colour to convey the connection and experimented with intentional brush work rather than repetitive detail. #o

This piece is by far one of my favourites! Very jealous of my collector in Hawaii who has this as one of her feature pieces 😆😆😆😆🤩 I painted this in 2018, acrylic on linen... or canvas? I can’t quite remember. Reference photo was thanks to @yosomono.photography .. .. #snowleopard #leopardpainting #leopardportrait #acrylicpainting #realism #luxuryart | Carla Grace Art

Where should this piece be hung? After 6 months, this oil painting was my first in the “imaginative realism” genre. I love it! As I have always been stuck in straight up “realism”, creating something totally different was exciting. However, I failed at it many times throughout the process. I have always imagined this piece being part of a bridal collection. Tag any bridal companies here that need to have this original in their collection/show room 🤩 #bridalcollection #bridalshowroom #luxurybrid

Peacock commission, acrylic on panel, 2022. A favourite piece of mine! Sold. It still amazes me that I was creating work like this with a new born baby that didn’t sleep. Two years later and I don’t think I could do it again. The power of determination can be incredible, even unbelievable in hindsight! #wildlifeartist #acrylicpainting #acrylicartwork #peacockfeathers #birdpainting | Carla Grace Art

How’d I do? The acrylic piece was done first and took longer than the 2 hour limit due to the amount of detail I tried to include. I cropped in on the reference image for the oil painting due to this issues so it was completed in the 2 hour sitting. With the acrylic piece I stuck to my 7 layer application process of building colours. For the oil painting I worked Alla Prima and did not revisit the painting once it was dry to add more detail. The purpose of these videos was to teach a beginner co

Finally back working on this piece. I must admit, my head has moved onto the bigger piece I’m planning but this situation is where I excel… doing something for the pure purpose of finishing it. I hate leaving a piece unfinished. If all goes well for the rest of this week, there is 2.5 days of work left on this piece 🥰 #oil_painting #flamingos #flamingoart #wildlifepaintings #wildlifepainting #wildlifeartists #wildlifeartwork #traditionalpainting #traditionalartist #fineartwork #realisticpaintin

Something new for us - this is Steve Reich's "Clapping Music". The piece was written in 1972, for two performers, with no instruments; just clapping. We were asked to learn this for a memorial service, and it was an interesting challenge! 😎👏🎶 | Larry and Carla - Choraegus

Probably one of my most favourite oil paintings of all time. This piece was meant to be a study for of a larger concept I wanted to trial run. I recreated the clouds and light on the birds and set them into a totally different environment to their original reference. I loved it. Now I’m planning workshops to Italy to paint the flamingos! Flamingos are among my all time favourite birds to paint. So much fun. So going to do another one in 2026! Soundtrack from @uppbeatofficial #birdart #realisticp

This painting has changed ALOT over the past 3 months. I began this piece in December, but haven’t been able to paint it fully in one chunk of time. I knew this was what this year was going to be like. Building a studio was going have that effect on my work flow. But I can confidently say I think that I like where the painting is at right now! #wildlifeart #horseart #equineart #fineart #realism #realismpainting #realismart | Carla Grace Art

I rarely do a painting just for fun. This is the last piece out of 7 tiny paintings over done over the holiday season just for the fun of it. 2 hours maximum spent on each one. This is an Australian black cockatoo. Painted with @m.grahamco acrylic paint Lovely dress from @balticbornclothing 😜 I haven’t gotten paint on my clothing in years so decided to wear my nice dresses that have been neglected for too long. Here’s to living on the edge 🤣🤷♀️ #australianbirds #birdpainting #wildlifelover #

Acrylic on top and oils on the bottom. 6 hours painting in total for each piece. The oil painting was done in two sittings allowing the blocking in layer to dry. I’ve been told I work with oils the same way I work with acrylic - this is in fact not true. For the simplification of not only teaching the lesson but for editing the tutorial footage, I don’t jump back and forth between random colour mixes erratically. I work systematically with each colour mix. Beginner level tutorial filmed for rele

Aside from my filming skills, there is a lot to unpack from this comparison: Two paintings of the same value, sold 7 years apart. Does this mean my work hasn’t evolved? I’m still where I was 7 years ago? Let’s talk about the paintings: My first snow leopard was 1.2m x 1.2m - the new piece: 46cm x 62cm My first snow leopard was among my first few originals sold - the new piece was a commission to a long time follower who had wanted to commission the piece back in 2018. Although the first piece wa

No projector? No problem… I did the sketch on a paper the same size as the painting then cut that out to trace on the canvas. I didn’t want to sketch onto the canvas directly because I didn’t want to scuff up the base painting. The clouds are a significant part of the finished piece so needed to be painted first. Drawing the outlines onto the oil paint would have left sketch marks which I didn’t want to deal with later on. So tracing was the next best option. I don’t have a projector so I used a

This is the only footage I have of when I painted the peacock. Acrylic on panel, no metallics were used for this piece. 🥰 filmed well before I had a good camera with an old iPhone and poor lighting... it’s still good enough footage, so don’t worry if you don’t have fancy equipment, you don’t need a lot to get some good content. .. .. #timelapsepainting #timelapse #acrylicpainting #acrylicpaintings #acrylicpaintingoncanvas #acrylicpaintingtechniques #acrylicpaintingartist #peacock #wildlife #wil

The storm was real after this reel was released 🫣 But seriously, that wasn’t my intention. These two videos were created as beginner tutorials for either acrylic or oil painters. I over simplified the process so that beginner artists could create a stunning portrait of an eagle with out complicated layering, glazes and mediums. The oil paint tutorial is created Alla Prima - focussing on brush work, the nature of pigments and how to layer them without muddying the colours. The acrylic piece show

When I visualise my ideas and try and grasp my concepts, they literally look like stars in a galaxy to my minds eye. I can see the different aspects of the painting that I want to bring to life, but they are floating independently of one another and I need to bring them together. In a sense I need to flatten the elements together, in the same way you would with a rolling pin and collection of differently coloured play dough pieces. Creating thumb nail sketches is vital in the situations where th

This one was planned down to every single detail. Instead of a performance on stage, this painting was commissioned and every single stage of the creation was intentional. My collector watched every brush stroke take shape through daily sharing and we knew exactly what we were creating. I have always prioritised my collectors experience with their paintings, and beyond what I share on social media, they get many more close ups and progress videos if they want it. We knew the value of the piece b

That lump of paint 🤦♀️ … and she never left paint lumpy again. The end 🤣 My collector swapped the panda for another piece, and they have many more in their collection. So this is in no way a complaint, it’s just what happened. The only time over ever had a painting returned. The lioness was officially burned, Winston Churchill style, last week. If you’re not familiar with that little bit of history, Winston Churchill famously burned a portrait done of him by Graham Sutherland. Arguably one of

Carla Grace Ollwitz on Instagram: "ALL artists need to copy in order to learn at certain stages in their journey. 🤯 copying is a vital tool in learning. Majority of artists need a references to paint. A reference is a representation of their subject - this can be either from life or from a photograph. Some artists can imagine the end result of their painting without the need of a reference, and then endeavour to piece together a reference of that imagined painting before committing it to canvas
