Nearly 100 years ago, the town of Matewan became the second phase the multi-year battle by the United Mine Workers of America that began at Paint Creek/Cabin Creek, and ended a few years later in the Battle of Blair Mountain. I will be thinking of this tomorrow, as West Virginia teachers and school support workers have declared another strike just 1 year after their very successful strike last year. These are largely descendents of those miners, and they still fight today - apparently, WV State
