Dr. Dunbar's Doggy Tips #11. BARKING Teach Your Puppy/Dog to Shush on Cue. So obvious, so quick, so simple. 1. Say, "Rover, Shush", 2. Waggle a food treat in front of the dog's nose. Sniffing the treat prompts your dog to 3. Stop barking (or singing) — sniffing and barking are mutually exclusive behaviors and so 4. Praise your dog, "Good Shush One, Good Shush Two, Good Shush three..." and offer the treat as a reward. Remember, a reward only reinforces behaviors that occurred in the past 2-3 seco
